"SMALL HOTELS MANAGEMENT" COURSE : CONTENT

The course consists of 6 chapters, each of them includes several sections (from 5 to 10 sections). Each section is divided into several parts, with infographics and audio, provided in the form of a slideshow. In addition to this short version of presenting the study materials, for each topic you can access a long version, which includes a more detailed information on the subject.

Course materials are divided into information blocks presented in a logical order, covering various aspects of hotel business.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION TO HOTEL BUSINESS

This Chapter contains an overview of the hotel industry, including hotels classification, market segmentation, the factors that affect the hotel business, various issues that need to be taken into account, a description of personal qualities that a small hotel owner should possess, as well as many other topics on the subject.

CHAPTER 2 | HOW TO BECOME A HOTEL OWNER

In this chapter we explore the process of selecting a hotel for purchase. We outline the specific factors that you need to take into account, explain how you should do the search and by which parameters, how to determine the market value of a hotel, what is involved in planning and feasibility study, what sources of financing you can potentially use, how to choose the hotel concept and why this is important, and much more.

CHAPTER 3 | THE ECONOMY OF HOTEL BUSINESS

This chapter is dedicated to studying the hotel business from the financial point of view. We explain how to assess the performance of a hotel, what indicators are used for this purpose and how they are calculated, what is the yield optimization, how it is achieved, and why developing a comprehensive pricing strategy is important.

CHAPTER 4 | PREPARING THE HOTEL FOR OPERATION

Information provided in this chapter will help you get a full understanding of how to organize a hotel from scratch. It includes developing the concept and style, planning the space, purchasing supplies, learning about utilities and other technical systems supporting the operation of a hotel, how the provision of meals is done and what transportation services can be offered to guests, as well as what leisure activities can be organized.

CHAPTER 5 | HOTEL OPERATION

In this chapter we review some of the key tasks that each hotel owner faces, which is how to attract and how to serve guests. This includes information on conducting advertising and marketing campaigns and what marketing techniques to use, how the hotel booking system works, about the processes of checking-in and checking-out the guests, how the housekeeping is organized and what it involves, as well as how to maintain the hotel's technical equipment and infrastructure.

CHAPTER 6 | HOTEL MANAGEMENT

This chapter provides information on another key task of a hotel owner, that is how to organize an effective hotel management system. It includes explanation of what is involved in hotel management and how to approach it, information about financial accounting, how to create a safe environment both for guests and employees, as well as what legal issues and problems an owner of a small hotel can face, and how to deal with them.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

In addition to these course materials, we offer various supplementary materials, which may include reviews on specific topics and case studies based on real-life hotels examples. In particular, the users of our course will receive additionally a detailed investment analysis based on a countryside resort located near Toronto in Canada. This analysis includes a thorough review of the resort's operation, its detailed financial data and the key performance indicators calculated based on this data, as well as our comments and explanations. It also includes an example of a business plan, a list of possible measures for improving the operation of this resort with calculations of expected return, and much more.
